I spent the evening with a few of my close friends and it was just a lovely evening. First, we found out that IHOP was doing a deal on pancakes and we all got a short stack for 60 cents which was pretty incredible. Spending time with my group of friends is a guaranteed night filled with fun and tons of laughter. I'm so thankful to have such great friends!
After IHOP we were feeling a little full and decided to walk around behind my friend's house. There is a creek in her backyard and we walked around near the water and crossed it. The weather was actually decent out today, which was surprising for July in Kansas. This lead to us driving to a nearby walking trail and taking a walk. We neared the middle of the trail where there was a clearing in the trees and we sat and watch the sun set. It was so beautiful. It's funny to me because the sunsets in Kansas are legendary in many country songs and its true! I have not seen a sunset quite as beautiful as the ones in Kansas. The sky turns so many beautiful colors and changes as it sets.

So as we were sitting there, watching the sunset, I began to just think. I thought about everything; my mind was just jumping from topic to topic. But I kind of sat in awe. It just really amazes me some of the beautiful creations that God made and how easily we miss them because we are caught up in the craziness of life. I just love sunsets; they are so beautiful to me. But how often do I take the 20 or 30 minutes to sit outside and just enjoy the peace and beauty of such a simple thing that occurs every day? Maybe a few times a year. Which is sad to me. I think I get so caught up in life that I forget to look around at how beautiful life is. Then I thought of my sweet friends surrounding me. I love them to death. Its so bittersweet because we are all headed off to college in just a few short weeks. I think I also take for granted how close I am with these people and just how amazing they are.
(Me-center, and two of my friends, Megan-left, and Blair-right. Of course if you don't take a picture it didn't happen right? But in all seriousness, I'm blessed to have these two in my life.)
So as I'm typing out this post and reflecting on the evening, I decided I'm going to be more aware of the little things in life. Because the little things are what matters most. From watching a beautiful sunset with my friends, to driving with the windows down on a nice summer evening, I think these things are truly some of life's finer things it has to offer. I'm going to try to be more thankful and grateful for every moment I have because time is so precious. I'm also going to try to be more content as I am. Life is too short to be unhappy. So surround yourself with close friends and make the most of every moment, and enjoy it.
That's all I have for this post. Until next time,
Kenzie
